Hope Downtown Network Meets
The Hope Downtown Network met in the Tailgater’s Annex on Thursday October 19th. After reviewing the minutes, the financials were reviewed. The HDN came out significantly ahead as a result of the successful A Taste of Hope event. The majority of the money earned will go towards the Pocket Park.
It was noted The Taste of Hope Event drew the community together, drawing a variety of people including those who do not normally show up for public events. There were a lot of families and all ages. The consensus was there were a few things which could be done better such as signage, having a map and having a larger cup size for the food. Those present agreed the event was positive and hope to repeat it.
The mural painted has already become an attraction with people taking photos by it. There was talk of a group finishing the mural, possibly 8th graders, and it will receive a coating afterwards. The mural can be added to at any time.
The HDN board talked about the use of $5000 in grant money to fix up their building on Main Street next to Vintage Girls Boutique. This would involve connecting the electricity to the building and installing windows in the rear. With the good publicity and positive feedback from the Taste of Hope event, members of the network are eager to build upon the positive momentum. The building, when fixed, could bring revenue from rentals as well providing a presence for the Network.
There will be a Christmas open house where refreshments will be served.
Improvements discussed for the Pocket Park included planters, tables, tents and maybe some more musical instruments. The xylophone is a draw. The question was asked if there was going to be a stand added to it for children to play it.
The next meeting will be on January 3rd.
