Granny’s Babies hosts coffee

PRESCOTT – It was coffee time at Granny’s Babies Tuesday morning as the daycare hosted a community coffee.

The business is owned by Delois and Derek Muldrew. Delois is the director and retired from the Department of Human Services after 32 years. Derek is a realtor, retired from Georgia Pacific. The couple started in Hope in 2016 and expanded to Prescott, first on South Side where the center was until the building was sold and now in the former McRae Middle School after a portion was rented to them by the Prescott School District.

Derek did the renovations, separating the building into an area for toddlers and babies. There is also a full kitchen where meals are prepared for the children. The children get breakfast, lunch and a snack every day. The capacity is 99 and applications are being taken for children, and part-time workers, at this time. Clientele ranges from 6 weeks to 12-years-old, with the older children separated from the infants and toddlers.

Delois said Granny’s Babies isn’t just a babysitting service, but offers a curriculum to help teach children as well as there’s a preschool for those ages 3-5. She said the rates are reasonable at $100 a week for babies six weeks to two-years-old and $90 a week for those older than two. Granny’s Babies currently has a staff of five.

The toddlers enjoyed going outside and playing on a firetruck, but also just being outside so they could run around.
