Cox Family To Play For First United Methodist Church at St. Mark’s

First United Methodist Church of Hope invites everyone to hear the Grammy Award-winning group, The Cox Family, in a music program at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 301 S. Elm in Hope Sunday, November 5, at 10:30 a.m.

From Cotton Valley, Louisiana, the group combines the styles of country, bluegrass and gospel music.  The Cox Family can be heard on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack; and their 1994 collaboration with singer Alison Krauss, I Know Who Holds Tomorrow, won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album.  They were nominated for another Grammy for their album Beyond the City.

The singing Cox Family first began performing together in the early 1970’s and were a popular draw at fairs and festivals, but their career was given a big boost when in the early ’90s they met Krauss, who brought them to the attention of Rounder Records.  Krauss recorded several of Sidney Cox’s songs, which appeared on both of her Grammy-winning albums.

In 1994 they caught the ear of the frontman of the multi-platinum-selling group Counting Crows, who invited them to open for the band during its North American tour.  In 2015, The Cox Family released Gone Like the Cotton, their first album for nearly20 years.

They have recently performed locally at Miracle Farms near Hope, in churches in Hope and Saratoga, and at Louisiana Grandstand in Shreveport, as well as in other venues in Louisiana and other states.

Everyone is invited to hear the talented Cox Family in a worship setting at First United Methodist Church, 10:30 a.m. Sunday, November 5, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 301 S. Elm, Hope.
