Christmas and Candlelight
The annual Christmas and Candlelight Celebration at Historic Washington State Park dodged bad weather to score great attendance Friday and Saturday (12-8 and 12-9). The event recreates Christmas in a 19th century town as many of the homes and structures are decorated in 19th century manner. There’s plenty of greenery and natural Christmas trees. There’s music in the 1874 Courthouse, the WPA Gym, the Presbyterian Church, and the Methodist Church.
This year there was something new at the 1940 WPA Gym. Numerous crafts booths were set up to have a perfect Christmas Craft Fair. There was also a vendor in front selling candied nuts made as the crowd watched. Across the street, the Silvey Family held their annual Live Nativity which once again proved to be very popular.
The decorations will remain up through new years. Even if the park isn’t open, those strolling the grounds can enjoy the decorations.
