ESL at UAHT ADULT EDUCATION

November 1, 2023, marked the second anniversary of my position as ESL instructor at U of A Hope-Texarkana Adult Education. English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are designed to make grade level academic content accessible to English learners. ESL programs target English language development, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Students who enroll in our adult education course are initially assessed in all four areas to determine beginning levels of language proficiency.
Course content instruction focuses on practical linguistics needed to improve a learner’s quality of life in workplace, educational, social, and community interactions. Currently there are 20 students enrolled in ESL classes, attending either in-person or completing assignments independently online through our distance learning platforms.  In class, we are studying English through a series of grammar, reading, and writing lessons, and I would love to see more local citizens take advantage our adult education ESL coursework.
ESL program enrollment is open to adults 18 and older. In Adult Ed, we also offer GED test preparation courses to English proficient students desiring to earn a high school diploma and citizenship classes for adults desiring to become US citizens.  We offer flexible class options,  morning and evenings, Monday through Wednesday on our campus in Hope and distance learning online options to eligible students. For more information about enrollment, please visit our office in the Student Success building on campus or call 870.722.8501.
