McRae gym packed for Curry’s Christmas event

PRESCOTT – For at least the last six years, Curry’s Outreach Ministry has hosted a Christmas party where children receive gifts along with lunch.
This year was no different, other than the location changed due to the growth of the event. This year’s party was held at the McRae gym. It was initially held at the Potlatch Building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, then moved to Curry’s Ministry, which proved to be much too small. The McRae Alumni Association approved the use of the gym. The lobby was set up where visitors could grab a couple of hot dogs and some cookies, a backpack, water bottle and a book or two.
Ivory Curry said he had more donors this year than ever and this is something he’s glad to do. “Someone did it for me and children don’t need to be without toys during Christmas,” he said. “There’s a lot of needy people in Prescott and Nevada County.”
Curry partnered with the faith-based community and ministerial alliance to put the event on. In addition, Casa Carlos makes monthly donations to Curry’s monthly feeds. Both banks also pitched in to help out.
The Christmas event, he said, is getting better each year. After everyone had a chance to eat, a drawing was held for the prizes. When their number was drawn, the child could go to the gym floor and pick whatever prize they wanted. Bicycles were popular with both boys and girls.
