Carl Smith

Carl Wayne Smith, 69, of Hope, AR passed from this earth on December 27, 2023, at Wadley Hospital, Hope, AR following a brief illness.

Carl was born to James Willam Smith and Lavonia (Durham) Smith on July 18, 1954, in Tacoma, Washington. Carl was very athletic and loved sports of all kinds. He played and coached softball for many years in Magnolia and Hope. He was a member of Garrett Memorial Baptist church of Hope, AR. Carl was an avid hunter and fisherman and was successful with both. He loved all things Razorback and supported and enjoyed watching the various sports teams. He was a member of Perrytown Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a Meatcutter/Butcher by trade who worked for many years in the Southwest Arkansas area, working for various locations for Smittys Food Stores, CashSaver/Rehkolph’s, Stephens’s Market, Terry’s Fresh Market and Tim’s in Lewisville. Carl was an accomplished Carpenter having built many decks, porches, and outdoor furniture. An Ace with an outdoor grill and smoker having designed many of his own. He was famous for cooking and smoking meat for many years at family get togethers.

He was preceded in death by: His grandparents, his father:  James William Smith, a brother-in-law: Mike Roach, and the mother of his son: Judy Ivers Smith.

He is survived by a son Bryan Smith of Hope, AR. His mother Lavonia (Durham) Smith of Eugene, OR. A sister Sue (Jake) Jacobson of Eugene, OR, and a sister Karen Roach of Grand Prairie, TX, nephews Toby Jacobson, Jonathan Butler, and Joshua Butler.

A Special Neighbor who became an adopted daughter, Kara Burton, and her children, Kaylee and Hudson who he thought of as his grandchildren.

A special Aunt & Uncle Fred and Mary Smith of Magnolia who served as surrogate parents, and their children who were as siblings: Tammy Caskey of Hot Springs, AR, Terry Smith of Magnolia, AR, Penny Ehrhardt of Hope, AR and Julia Almand of Texarkana, AR.

A Very Special Friend Connie Anisworth formerly of Magnolia, AR currently of Dallas, TX area and numerous cousins.

A Celebration of Life service is Friday, January 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm, Unity Baptist Church of Hope Fellowship Hall.
