Hempstead County area weather changes (Running updates)

The Hope ConneXion Public Announcement: Tonight we are continuing to be open as a Warming Center. We are also open today as a warming center only! Not as an Outreach. “It is just to cold for us to allow people to be out in the cold! If you know anyone who is in need, living housing adjacent (either rough, in a trap /squat house without heat, or other utilities.) Please bring them here. We have a shower, heat, water and a place not to freeze (and some snacks provided by kind citizens of Hope). Things we need right now:

Due to the bad weather, Hope Junior High basketball games have been canceled for tonight (Monday, January 15)!

Hempstead County Courthouse and the Road and Waste Department will be closed Tuesday, January 16th due to the bad weather. Depends on how the weather is Wednesday, January 17th if the trash trucks can run.

The City of Hope plans to conduct garbage collection on Tuesday (Monday’s normal route) and Wednesday (Tuesday’s normal route) as scheduled from the MLK Holiday adjustment. Please be patient as our services may be slower and atypical. If we begin and later determine that it is too unsafe to continue, we will let you know as soon as possible via our social media outlets. The HWL office will be closed Tuesday, January 16th due to inclement weather. This information will be updated based on current weather conditions. If there is a water or electric emergency call 870-777-3000.

The Hempstead County Health Unit will be closed Tuesday, January 16th, due to road conditions.

Hope Public Schools will be CLOSED on Tuesday, January 16th due to inclement weather. The Board Meeting will also be rescheduled. We will evaluate further closures or delays as necessary.

Blevins School District will be closed Tuesday.

UAHT Hope will be closed Tuesday.

Garrett Memorial Christian School will be closed Tuesday.

Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce closed Tuesday.

SWREC will be closed Tues, Jan. 16th due to inclement weather.

All UA Cossatot campuses closed Tuesday.

Nashville School District will be closed. – Scrapper and Scrapperette basketball games scheduled for Monday, January 15 and 16 have been canceled and will be rescheduled.

South Pike County School District will be closed. – Basketball games scheduled for Monday, January 15 have been canceled and rescheduled for Thursday, January 18.

Mineral Springs School District closed Tuesday.

Hempstead County Extension Office will be closed Tuesday.

Hempstead County Library will be closed Tuesday.

Southern Arkansas University School Systems will be closed Tuesday.

Texas A&M Texarkana will be closed Tuesday.

Lafayette County School District closed Tuesday.

First Baptist Church-Hope office will be closed Tuesday.

Making Rainbows-Hope, Making Rainbows-Lewisville, Bright Beginnings-Prescott, Rainbow Industries, ROC Enterprise, Recycling Center-Prescott, and Administration Complex will be closed Tuesday.

Texarkana College operations would be switching to remote learning and working for all students and staff on Tuesday.

Henderson State University: Classes are cancelled and offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 16 and Wednesday, January 17 due to winter weather conditions in surrounding areas. Ouachita Baptist University – Classes have been cancelled for Tuesday 1/16 and Wednesday 1/17 due to inclement weather. University offices will be closed Tuesday and are expected to open again on Wednesday. For more information on meal plans, rush and other activities, students should check their university email. We will continue to provide updates as needed.

Lafayette County trash pickup for Monday & Tuesday will be on Wednesday, Wednesday & Thursday will be picked up Thursday.

Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Community Coffee scheduled for Wednesday, January 17th has been postponed. The new date will be announced soon!

Due to inclement weather, Providence Missionary Baptist Church Faith Bible Institute classes will begin next Monday.

The Hempstead County Firefighters Association meeting has been postponed until Feb 6th, 6 pm at Guernsey VFD.
