Chili cookoff at Southern Pines

PRESCOTT – It was chili time at Southern Pines Health and Rehab Wednesday afternoon as employees pitted their best chili recipes against one another.

A total of nine varieties of chili were entered for members of the Prescott Fire Department to judge. The firemen sampled each of the nine entries and decided the winner to be Mia and Macy. The pair took home a trophy and a $50 gift certificate. Sandy Roble came in second and won a $25 gift certificate. A drawing was held at the end of the event with David Gummeson winning. His prize was a basket of goodies including a $20 gift certificate.

Those attending the cookoff were invited to sample the chili as well, though in larger bowls. They also had access to cheese, crackers and sour cream for their choices, along with cinnamon rolls for dessert.

Everyone was told there’s a lot of new faces at the facility and there’s been a lot of changes, including a new therapy gym being built. The building will be painted and have new flooring installed as well.

Saybra Richardson, community marketing director, said plans are to hold an event every month and become more involved with the community.
