Hope Schools Holds Public Meeting On Middle School Options

The Hope Public Schools held a public meeting at Hempstead Hall on Tuesday (1-30). The meeting was about the public response to the future of middle school options for Hope Public Schools.
There were three options given. One of them was for Beryl Henry students to be combined with Yerger students and HAPS students to be moved to the Beryl Henry campus. Another option was to have two 5-8 campuses and having one hallway at Beryl Henry with a division for a HAPS program. A third option would be to use three schools: Beryl Henry, Clinton Elementary, and Yerger with grades divided up into a joint K-2, 3-5, 6-8.
The last option didn’t receive much interest.
Sylvia Brown wanted the school board members to voice their opinion.
The school district seems to be leaning towards having two 5-8 campuses. HAPS students and parents asked for another year at HAPS instead of the options presented. They were told it wasn’t an option. The school facilities have a rating of -24 and normally when they reach zero they are retired.
The meeting got contentious with Dr. Crossley trying to calm down the situation.
