January Starts New Year Colder, Wetter Than Normal

January 2024 turned out to be colder and wetter than normal.  9.44 inches of precipitation were recorded in January at the Southwest Research and Extension Center, the official weather reporting station for Hope.  Normal rainfall for January is 4.15 inches which means Hope is up 5.29 inches on rainfall for 2024.

The average air temperature for the month was 33.87 degrees.  That compares to a normal average of 42.10 degrees.  Hope was 8.23 degrees below normal for January.

The low temperature for January 2024 came on the 17th when 9 degrees was recorded.  There were five days with lows in the teens and 13 days with lows in the 20’s.

The high temperature for January was 73 recorded on the last day of the month.  Three days had highs only in the 20’s.  On January 15th and 16th the high was only 23 each day.
