PSD going to four-day week

PRESCOTT – When school resumes for the 2024-25 school year it will be on a four-day week basis.

The Prescott School Board, in a recent special session, voted to go to a four-day school week starting in Aug. 2024. Superintendent Robert Poole said this is being done to help Prescott compete with other schools that have gone to or are going to four-day weeks. The idea, he said, is to help retain teachers and recruit new ones as the four-day week is the current trend.

This should, he said, help the students, teachers and athletes, and it will help the district financially being shut down one day a week, though, he added, it won’t mean a lot of savings. The change won’t affect athletics, but should help with the bus driving situation on Fridays with away games as students won’t have to be driven home after school. At this point, basketball will continue being played on Tuesdays and Fridays, but there is a possibility, Poole said, games could be Tuesdays and Thursdays, but it would be up to the conference to decide.

The reason for the decision at this time, he said, is the district needs to be working on its calendar for next year and the change will have to be approved by the Personnel Policies Committee.
