Hope School Board
The Hope School Board met in the high school auditorium on Tuesday (2-22). First were community recognitions and a discussion of the school calendar. There were 500 survey responses. The options are either a modified calendar or a modified hybrid. It is not a year-round calendar as it starts either on the 18th of July and gets out in either May or June.
Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Crossley discussed the reconfiguration options stating the board had started with idea of the HAPS taking over Beryl Henry. He stated that 7 years ago innovation was really needed. Dr. Crossley spoke about bringing what HAPS had to other the other schools and how the innovation has bled over into Yerger and BHE.
Bubba Powers spoke expressing his concern about doing the transition too quickly in order to save money. In response, Linda Haynes stated teachers adapt for a living and the first year of HAPS they were able to meet the challenges. She expressed concern about delaying offering HAPS programs to BHE and Yerger students. Dr. Crossley made it clear that financially the change could wait but he stated long-term it wasn’t sustainable. Keeping the Garland building open will cost $40,000 this year. Mrs. Dickinson expressed her sadness at hearing BHE students talk about not being as bright as HAPS students. There was a motion made to move the HAPS to Beryl Henry. This motion tied and was tabled. Another motion was made to split HAPS between the BHE and Yerger as a school within a school. This motion passed.
There was a motion to make the move in the 25-26 school year. This motion passed.
Next item was an academic boost after school tutoring program. There was a motion to accept the program which passed.
A motion to accept KLC video security passed as did a motion to accept school choice.
The Outlaw school rental was rejected as was the Phoenix group.
BHE and High School Gym rental requests were accepted.
The personnel packet was accepted.
There was a closed student hearing.
