The Hempstead County Quorum Court met in the Courthouse in Hope on Thursday (2-22). After the invocation and pledge the minutes were approved as was the 2022 Financial compliance report.
There were two resolutions sponsored by Ed Darling. The first, 2022-2, was an ordinance transferring and appropriating money for the jail for the sewage issues of the 2023 budget year. The total was $400,000.
2022-3 transferred and appropriated ARPA funds in the amount of $3,671.48 for the Health Unit to replace a door. Both these ordinances passed.
SAWS water board members Leroy Adams, Chris Estes, Warren Webster and Lloyd Turner were sworn in.
Anna Powell thanked the board for supporting the Hope Baking Company Tax Back resolution and said she would report back to the quorum court. She also thanked the jp’s for their support of the Mayor’s summit as there were a number if members present.
Judge Crane noted the county is trying to catch up on the roads putting gray gravel instead of red clay. He stated the gravel stays there and people can get stuck in the middle of the road with the red clay.
The old Courthouse elevator is broken and the cost to fix it would be $200,000. The county will look for a grant. The plan is to seal off the elevator for safety. The circuit board cannot be fixed.
The Quorum Court adjourned.
