Weather perfect for Kiwanis chili lunch
PRESCOTT – Weather-wise, the day was perfect for the Kiwanis Club’s annual chili lunch Thursday.
Held at the First United Methodist Church, people began gathering early as hot chili on a chilly day was a perfect lunch treat. There were nine containers of chili ranging from chicken chili, to chili with and without beans. Along with chili, diners enjoyed crackers, cornbread, cookies and a drink.
Club members were hit with a rush roughly as soon as the doors officially opened as local residents were ready for something hot. The event is a fundraiser for the club with the bulk of the money going toward scholarships. The club gives two $1,000 scholarships to seniors heading to college and this year added a new scholarship. Now, those going into a trade or technical industry after high school can get a $500 scholarship to help with their expenses. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is April 15.
The event was both dine in and carry out, with several choosing to stay and eat instead of heading back outside into the inclement weather.
