Renovations planned for Rosston city hall

ROSSTON – Renovations on Rosston’s city hall are expected to begin next week.

This is what the Rosston City Council was told at its March meeting Monday evening. Mayor Dale Quarles informed the panel the city has been approved for a loan of $58,600 to do the renovations. While the work at city hall is being done, all city operations will be handled at the fire station. The construction work will be done by H&C Construction.

The 10-year loan came from the Bank of Delight and has an interest rate of 4.5 percent. Quarles said he’d like to pay the loan off as quickly as possible.

In other business, the council was informed sales tax collections rose from $3,573 to $3,859 over the last month.

Quarles reminded the panel it’s time to apply for the LIHWAP program. This program helps low income people pay for utility bills. He said no one, to his knowledge, was turned down last year and it helped people get caught up on their water bill. “It’s a good program,” he said. “We need to let them know Rosston wants to apply.” The application process, he added, can be done on line. He urged all residents who are behind on their bills to sign up.

As the meeting came to a close, Quarles congratulated the Nevada Blue Jay basketball team for reaching the finals of the state tournament, saying the city will do something to recognize the team.

It was also pointed out the Gold Star group will host an Easter Egg Hunt from 10 a.m. until noon at the city park on March 23. The hunt is open to anyone and there will be food and drinks available.
