Little business for city council

PRESCOTT – March’s agenda for the Prescott City Council was light.

Actually, aside from reports and comments from the public, there was no business for the council to discuss Monday night.

Prescott Police Chief Ann Jordan introduced a new officer, Theo Purifoy, saying they went through the academy together.

Jerry Esley asked about the Potlatch property, why no sales tax is being collected from it and where the rent money from Holcim and logs on the property is going.

Jessica Box talked about the traffic signal at 67 and Elm being a dangerous situation as the light flashes red on all four sides. She suggested a four-way stop being put in place, or having one side of the lights flash red and the other flash yellow.

Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver said traffic lights are operated by the state. Larry Jones, Jr., said he doesn’t know if there’s an issue with the light or not, but he’ll look into it.

Councilman Howard Austin asked if the city was doing anything for the upcoming solar eclipse. Oliver said Prescott isn’t expecting a lot of traffic problems as this part of the state will only see the eclipse for about two minutes.
