PRESCOTT – It was party time for the Prescott Rotary Club Tuesday as members of the club celebrated Dr. Mike Young’s 76th birthday – complete with chocolate cake.

However, the birthday party wasn’t the only thing to occur. Rotarians were informed the club has purchased the grill for its annual raffle. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and can be purchased from any club member. Farmers Bank donated money for the grill which was built by students at the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana. The drawing will be held May 24 and the winner need not be present to win. However, whoever wins the grill will have to have a way to take it home.

Club members also talked about having honorary members. These people would be involved with the club, but not pay dues. Honorary members would be able to wear the club’s shirts during club events and while working on service projects in the community.

Normally, the club gives laptop computers to graduating seniors. This year it was decided to give two scholarships to Prescott seniors for $1,250 each. One will be for college, with the other for a student going into vocational training. The club is working to get applications together so students can apply.

Club President Patricia Roberts said Rotary was well represented at Saturday’s Easter Egg Hunt.

Club members are also selling tickets which will allow the winner to have dinner anywhere in the world. A total of 400 tickets are being sold at $25 each. The winner can choose to go anywhere in the world, or take $2,500 in cash. The local club only received 15 tickets so anyone wanting to try their hand needs to get in touch with Bo Young as soon as possible.
