Scouts enjoy solar eclipse party

Hope’s Scout Troop 5 went on a new adventure on the Ouachita River to experience the Total Solar Eclipse last week.  They were hosted by the Laughard family on their property just west of Mount Ida, Arkansas.

Activities included swimming, kayaking, tubing, playing badminton, volleyball and inside  games. The purpose of the trip was to position the Scouts and guests in the center of the solar eclipse path.  The results were spectacular with stars and planets clearly visible in a cloudless sky over the Ouachita River.

Darin, Bonita and Eagle Scout Jordan Laughard were gracious hosts for the three day event. Donnie Golden supervised the meals which included lots of smoked chicken and pork on Saturday followed by fajitas the next evening.

There will be another Total Solar Eclipse in Arkansas August 12th, 2025 but to experience a Total Eclipse that is as dark as this one you will need to wait 217 years.
