The Hempstead Republican Party held their Lincoln-Day Dinner at Hempstead Hall on Monday (4-22).  Master of Ceremonies Steve Atchley welcomed attendees to the event and talked about inflation being out of control and needing God more than ever. He noted Lincoln was the only president to have invented anything.
Judge Jerry Crane gave the benediction.  There was a Boy Scout posting of the colors and pledge of allegiance led by Les Patterson.  The National Anthem was led by Mayor Don Still.  Both veterans and first responders were told to stand and be honored Ed Flagg.  There was an introduction of elected officials
Mark Ross introduced the speaker, Jan Morgan, noting her proficiency with firearms.  Ross pointed out she is NRA firearms instructor certified, has 1.5 million social media followers, and has made it her specialty to expose fraud and waste.  The guest speaker has also attended Republican events in 25 states.  To contrast with the introduction, she started with a story about having seen a news feed at 10pm about abandoned puppies and being in tears over it. She and her husband made the four-hour drive to rescue the dogs.  The story of how the puppies must have felt being abandoned was used to illustrate how she has felt with the US and the sudden changes. Morgan says the US is under assault and talked about 20 million illegal immigrants being in the country.  In response to all the chaos she said there were three options. The first one was to pull out of the fight, prep and pray. She stated this was sure defeat as though those following it might outlive the millions ultimately it results in defeat.  The second option is to keep on doing what we are doing, supporting the Republican Party and voting. She talked about the elected officials not working for the voter anymore as big money supports them. The third option is to stand up and fight.
Morgan detailed major areas she thinks need such fighting.  These included electoral integrity as well as closed primaries.  Morgan also discussed the Republican party’s platform and accused elected officials of violating it every day. She noted she believes officials need to be held to the platform.
Morgan argued against Super PACs stating while the individual can only donate $2900 to a candidate, Super PACs are unlimited. She talked about the need to eliminate them and that candidates should be limited as to how much they are allowed to raise. Morgan also argued for term limits. the value of the constitution, and the bill of rights.
Morgan closed with a story about Valley Forge and stated if anyone ever had a right to give up it was the American soldiers who were there.  She said the government was our business and we have to “mind the store”.  She likened dealing with legislators to herding puppies. Morgan ended stating she was looking for a home for the puppies she rescued.
After Morgan spoke, the winners of the silent auction were announced.  The closing prayer was voiced by Scott Gunter.
