EMMET – In a special called meeting of the Emmet City Council Monday night, the panel voted to allow Hannah Hines Holding to “assume management of the Emmet school facility”.

This was the only item on the agenda. Emmet Mayor Dale Booker told the council Hines had asked for permission to rebuild the facility to be used as a school. Hines said it needs to be rebuilt and cleaned up, but she needs to prove herself before asking the city to negotiate ownership of the property.

Councilman Grant Cox asked if the city would still own the facility while it was being rebuilt. He was told it would. He also asked who would be liable. Hines said she would insure the property while the work was being done.

The proposal presented to the board is as follows: “Hannah Hines Holdings, humbly and formally, requests that the City of Emmet allow Hannah Hines to assume management of the Emmet School facility, with the sole intent to restore the facility to working condition for a place of higher learning. Through conserving the resources and good faith management, the HHH will restore and conserve the facilities available to PROTECT the young minds of the community. THEN, and ONLY THEN, will the City of Emmet transfer ownership to Hannah Hines Holding, for the sold purpose of using the facility as a center for learning and education,

“IF the facility ceases to be used as a school, the property then reverts back to the City of Emmet.”

The council voted 4-0 in favor of allowing Hines to renovate the structure. She said she will get the building inspected and look for asbestos.
