Council learns about Ark Angel program

ROSSTON – A new program is available to seniors and those in need of home assistance.

Samuel Quarles, son of Rosston Mayor Dale Quarles, spoke to the Rosston City Council at its May meeting Monday night, about the Ark Angel Care program. He said the program would help provide home care up to 20 hours for those with Medicaid 21 and older. Medicaid, he said, would pay for up to 80 hours of assistance.

A soft opening is under way. Quarles said he wanted to start in Rosston as it’s where he’s from, adding it’s a good program and will benefit the people of Rosston and surrounding area. It is an income-based program, but other options are available for those who don’t qualify based on their income. The program, he added, is also tech-savvy and enrollment can be done online. It will help those in need with their hygiene needs, food preparation, housekeeping and light shopping.

Plans, he said, are for the program to go full blast in mid-June. For those interested, the phone number is 501-604-6444. The website is www.arkangelcare.com.

In other business the panel approved seeking a 1/2 cent sales tax for the Rosston Volunteer Fire Department. Quarles said he’s already talked to an attorney and wants to get this started.

In the budget report, the council was told income had increased around $7,000 over last month, even after spending around $2,500 on new furniture for city hall.

The council was also told a beautification project will be done around city hall. Quarles said he thinks it can be done for less than $1,000. The council agreed and approved.

Quarles said the exterior of city hall is done and crews are working on the floors and walls. The building should be finished and ready for the council to meet by the June meeting. He added, he’ll be looking into signage for the building as well.
