Ribbon cutting for Southern Pines rehab center

PRESCOTT – Officials with Southern Pines Nursing and Rehab took a little time Tuesday to show off the new therapy/rehab room.

The renovations combined two rooms to make one large enough for the therapy unit. This is where patients will go to rehab from injuries or to help strengthen their muscles. However, a doctors prescription will be required for those in therapy.

Now, the new therapy center wasn’t the only thing Southern Pines had to brag about. The hallways have been painted and the nurses station has been redone in wood. Additionally, the rooms are being painted, which requires the residents to be moved temporarily.

Administrator Brittany Gray said this open house was to show the community the changes being made. Around 200 hamburgers and hot dogs were cooked on a griddle outside and enjoyed by those who showed up for the ribbon cutting. The therapy center will have one occupational therapist, one speech therapist and a director of therapy, Abby Fore. Beth Henley will do the occupational therapy with Heather Brasel handling speech therapy. Medicare and Medicaid is accepted.

Gray said Southern Pines wants to be more involved in the community along with letting people know about the positive changes being made there.

A drawing was held for door prizes.
