BLEVINS – Damein Mavis has been named the new Blevins Volunteer Fire Department Chief. Mavis is currently Assistant Chief and will be the 7th Fire Chief since the department’s creation in 1975. According to the Blevins VFD in a statement, “Damein is very active in our community, is the father of three and husband to Shelby who is also a firefighter. Damein is also very active in his church as well. He will do a great service for our community!”
Mavis will assume the role of current Chief Tim Choate. Choate said in a social media post, “It has been a REAL HONOR to wear this badge for the last 19 years, and to serve the Blevins Fire District encompassing 77 square miles, a school and about 2500 residents. 44 years ago, I made my first entry on a large structure fire at 16 years of age and was hooked ever since. We even rode the tailboards (you old firemen understand) to fires! The fire service is a family of people who come together to serve their fellow people and I am proud to say I had a small part in giving back to my community. I will continue to help the service where needed and teach a class or two. Thank you to the community and the next generation who will lead our service through the future. July 1st Assistant Chief Damein Mavis will take the department to new heights and adventures, GOD SPEED Chief Damein!”
