Ketty Lester Visits Barry’s
One of Hope’s favorite daughters is in town this week. Ketty Lester is a native of Hempstead County who found success in both music and acting. She had a major hit record in 1962 with “Love Letters”. During her recording career she made several albums for RCA-Victor and was nominated for a Grammy. Later, she turned her attention more to acting with a regular role on “Little House on the Prairie” from 1977 to 1983 as well as a regular role on “Days of Our Lives” in the mid 1970’s. She also made many movies which include “Uptown Saturday Night” and “The Prisoner of Second Avenue”.
She is a graduate of Yerger High School under her birth name Revoyda Frierson.
Ketty Lester will be at Northside Park at 2 p.m. on Wednesday June 19th and at the Henry Clay Yerger High School Museum on June 20th from 10 am until 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to come out and meet her.
Tuesday afternoon, Lester and her companions went by Barry’s to get a peanut patty. When everyone in the store learned she was out in the car, they headed out to meet her. She did not disappoint! She graciously visited with everyone, signed autographs and posed for pictures. Here she’s shown with Shirley Lindsey and Sebrena Chambers.
We join our town and our county in welcoming home Ketty Lester!
