Juneteenth celebrated in Prescott

PRESCOTT – Juneteenth was celebrated in Prescott Wednesday at the Nevada County Courthouse lawn.

A bounce house was set up for children to play and have fun on, with several food vendors on hand for those who got hungry or thirsty. The Prescott Police Department held a fish fry fundraiser to help raise money for Police Chief Ann Jordan and Officer Jeremy Hendrix, as both are having health problems. The fish went for $15 a plate and featured fish, cole slaw, baked beans, hush puppies and a cold drink.

Additionally, there was a bbq truck on hand along with Hurricane Henry’s Shaved Ice and Queen Bea’s Sweets and Treats.

A history of Juneteenth was also provided.

Mostly, though, it was a chance for people to mingle, sign a petition to help equalize private, church and public schools, putting them all on the same footing where academic requirements are concerned, and enjoy the day.
