Blevins School Board
The Blevins School Board met in the cafeteria on Tuesday (7-9).
$861,000 was transferred to the building fund to be used for maintenance and repairs. A motion to approve the transfer passed after a motion.tk approve the financial report passed.
A motion passed to accept a bid from L and W Scrap of $2,600 for four buses and car.
A motion passed to continue the purchasing the “With and Wisdom” readers as part of the state mandated literacy program. These readers cost $9, 249. 91

A motion passed to accept Illustrated Math for $13,240.
A motion passed to accept the insurance premiums presented totaling close to $100,000.
The salary schedule was discussed. A motion passed to amend the salaries of teachers who run the ACT program. The exams will likely be held once each semester and once during the summer. Students are allowed to take them twice free during their junior year. Taking them a second time gives the students a chance to be more comfortable taking the exam. Also passed was a motion to pay a $3,000 bonus to each special education teachers. This will come out of the special education budget. These teachers have extra paperwork to complete and take extra classes. A motion passed to approve the additional pay for some other teachers who handled additional duties but had not yet been compensated for them. A couple of items were simply for information and not to be voted on – employee sick leave payout and an attendance bonus.
Student handbook changes included cell phone pouches. The governor has approved their use. Students leave the cell phones in them and the pouches are stored in the office during the day.
The student absences were cleaned up with more absences allowed and tardiness was removed from being counted towards an absence.
The lunch detention policy was tightened.
A motion passed accepting handbook changes.
Board policy updates were also approved.
The Superintendent’s Report included summer lunches served and safety updates. There were 100 lunches per day served for a combination of kids in summer school and playing sports.
Two-way communication, fencing, video cameras, a “buzz-in” and manager’s system will be in place for the next year.
The meeting went into executive session and upon returning it was announced the session was to discuss Intel funds but no action was taken. Staff was hired as listed and resignations were approved except for those under contract. Homeschooled students will be allowed to participate in sports.
