Hope’s First United Methodist Church is pleased to announce that Reverend Rollie T. “Tom” Mullins has been appointed by the Arkansas United Methodist Conference to serve as pastor at FUMC Hope.  He and his wife Kim are moving from Marvell, AR, to Hope and will begin their tenure at FUMC this Sunday, August 18.
Rev. Mullins, originally from Middletown, Ohio, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, received a Master of Divinity Degree from Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas, and is currently a Doctor of Ministry student at St. Paul.
He has recently served Lexa UMC in Lexa, AR, and Marvell UMC in Marvell, AR.  Previous appointments include Fort Scott, Kansas, as well as FUMC Osceola, FUMC McGehee, Wesley UMC, Leslie UMC, Marshall UMC, Ola UMC, Plainview UMC, and Center Grove UMC near Sheridan, all in Arkansas.  He also previously served two United Methodist Churches in Missouri.
Rev. Mullins and his wife Kim are “empty nesters,” who have been married 37 years and have two adult children, one grandchild, and three rescue dogs.  They enjoy attending local sports, especially football, and attending live art and music performances such as plays and concerts.  Rev. Mullins said he has participated in local ministerial alliances, volunteered as a hospital chaplain, and has written a weekly faith column in a local newspaper.  He is credentialed and has worked as a substitute teacher.
“I am excited about working with the congregation to help where needed and support emotional, physical, and spiritual health needs,” he said.  “By working together, we can address local issues and needs.  We can cooperate with others as we build a new identity and develop missions and ministries that help those in need.  We can explore new opportunities to serve God and others.  I am excited to share God’s Word and grow in faith with prayer, Bible study, and mission outreach.”
The congregation of First United Methodist Church of Hope is excited to have Rev. Mullins appointed and excited to invite everyone to his first service, Sunday at 10:30 a.m.  FUMC Hope meets each Sunday in the historic St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 301 S. Elm in downtown Hope.
