Laughards Bring Program to Civitan

Local car enthusiasts Darin Laughard (right) and his son Jordan visited the Hope Civitan Club recently.  Darin, a member of the Sports Car Club of America, told the club about a recent Autocross timed, skilled driving event held at the Hope Airport in July, with 60 registered participants.

He explained that Autocross is a form of car racing where drivers navigate through a course defined by traffic cones on a large paved area such as a parking lot or airport tarmac.  At these events, rather than face multiple cars in a wheel-to-wheel race, participants are timed as they go through the course one at a time.
Darin pointed out the excitement and fun of the event, not only for the drivers, but also for spectators.  He was organizer of the first event and said another Arkansas Region Sports Car Club of America Autocross will be held at the Hope Airport September 21 and 22.
