Blevins Schools enforcing phone-free policy

BLEVINS – With the start of school, the Blevins School District says it will continue to enforce the phone-free policy in their student handbook.

K-12 students are expected to turn off and put away cell phones, smart watches, and all personal electronic devices during school hours.

“While we recognize that cell phones can be useful tools, we are also aware of the potential negative impact of phone addiction on a child’s well-being. Despite previous attempts to limit students’ use of phones in school, the challenge remains as long as the devices are readily accessible. When students are fully engaged with their teachers and classmates, both learning outcomes and social behaviors improve,” the district stated.

The district cited reports from other schools who have removed cell phone from classrooms show:

  • 84% improvement in student engagement.
  • 72% improvement in student behavior.
  • 68% improvement in academic performance.
  • 86% improvement in student safety and wellness.

If a student is caught using a device during school hours, it will be confiscated and only returned to only to parent. Repeated offenses may lead to further disciplinary action per handbook policy.
