Iziar “Ike” Wheaton Sr.

Iziar Wheaton Sr., a dedicated veteran and loving family man, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 97. Born in Gary, Indiana, on June 17, 1927, to Sidney and Josephine Wheaton, Iziar’s life was marked by service, resilience, and unwavering love for his family.

A proud veteran of World War II, Iziar served in the U.S. Marine Corps. His courage and sacrifice during this tumultuous time shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty. After his service, Iziar worked as a construction worker, contributing his strength and skill to building communities.

Iziar was a devoted husband to Dorothy Wheaton and a loving father to his children. He was known for his hard work, unwavering dedication, and his passion for watching WWF Wrestling. His gentle spirit and kind heart endeared him to all who knew him.

Iziar is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wheaton; parents, Sidney and Josephine Wheaton; son, James Ray Gipson; brothers, Arthur Wheaton, Burrell Wheaton and Larry Wheaton; sisters, Jewel Dean Rice, Einora Welch, Gracie Spink, and Ida Mae Lewis.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Ethel Faye Whitfield of Oakland, CA, Josie Wheaton of Hope, AR, Elnora Dean Wheaton of Texarkana, AR, L. B. Gipson of Hope, AR, Iziar Wheaton Jr. of Hope, AR, and Roy Charles Johnson of Tyler, TX; grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives, and friends.

Iziar Wheaton Sr. will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of service, love, and resilience will continue to inspire future generations.
