Hempstead County Quorum Court
The Hempstead County Quorum Court met in regular session Thursday (8-22). After the prayer, pledge and approval of last month’s minutes, the topic was the Old Courthouse. $25,000 was approved to pay the architectural firm of Taylor and Kempkes to work with the Historical Preservation Program to make sure it stays within their guidelines. They will do both the architectural and engineering work. The total amount of grant money available for the project is $264, 800. If the amount of the bid by Taylor and Kempkes exceeds that there is a chance other options will be pursued.
For the Hope hospital the hearing, is postponed until next week and the transfer do ownership is still in limbo. Hempstead County and the city of Hope have partnered to own the property with Pafford Medical Services to operate it.
Bonnie Raff of the Daughters of the American Revolution was at the Court as Martha Washington. Constitution Week is from September 17th – 23rd. Since next month’s Quorum Court will be later than those dates, Raff spoke during the August meeting. She handed out copies of the Constitution.
