Mississippi man brings largest melon to weigh-off

WASHINGTON – The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth Weigh Off was held Saturday in Washington.
This year’s winner was RC Vaughn from Coffeeville, Mississippi, winning the state record. He has been growing for 8 years. His weighed 270.8 pounds.  The prize was $600.
Kenny Crawford, from Hornerville , Missouri has been growing for 4 years. His watermelon weighed 262.7 pounds. This was a state record for Missouri. The prize was $400.
Garron Batcher from Rush Springs, Oklahoma took third place. His watermelon weighed 224.6 pounds. The prize was $300.
Washington Fire Department Chief Jon Barry has been helping out at the weigh off for 17 years. Lloyd Bright, who has been growing for 40 years was at the event. He held two of the previous world records.
