Gloria D. Walker

Gloria Walker, 69, of Little Rock, Arkansas, formerly of Prescott, Arkansas passed away at Baptist Health Medical Center, Little Rock, Arkansas after a long fight with health concerns.  She was born the fifth child on September 3, 1955, in Prescott, AR, to the union of Mr. William Walker and Mrs. Icy Lee Coleman Walker.  She was a well-loved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, cousin and friend.

Having accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, she became a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder J. T. Gilmore and Elder Leroy Sworn, respectively.  During her tenure at Faith Temple, she served as one of the primary choir song leaders, missionary, deaconess, and Sunday School teacher. She subsequently moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, where she became a member at New Calvary Temple Church of God of God in Christ, Bishop Donnie L. Lindsey, and then to Trumpet In Zion Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Apostle Lawrence Bragg.

She attended McCrae High School and graduated from Prescott High School after the integration was implemented. She also attended Red River Vocational Technical school, now known as University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana in Hope, Arkansas. While living in Prescott she worked at Tyson Foods in Nashville, AR, then at Prescott Manor Nursing Home. After moving to Little Rock, Arkansas, she received her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant and went on to work at various medical facilities there up until her time of illness and subsequent death.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her only daughter, Yumika Porter-Sterling, two brothers, Mr. Carl Walker and Mr. Donnie Ray Walker and one sister Valerie Walker.  She is survived by and leaves to cherish her many loving memories, Her only son and daughter in law, Mr. Varnardo (Trina) Williams of Dallas, Texas.  Five brothers, Mr. William Walker, Jr. of Mississippi, Mr. James Walker of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Mr. John (Marilyn) Walker of Prescott, Arkansas, Mr. Russell Walker and Mr. Keith Walker both of Dallas, Texas.  Three sisters, Mrs. Leavine (Ivory) Spain of Jeanerette, Louisiana, Mrs. Deloria (Bob) Cooper of Poway, California and Ms. Toiannette Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, her only son in law, Mr. Mitchell Sterling of Aubrey, Texas.  Two uncles, Mr. Ira Lee Coleman, of Wilton, Arkansas and Mr. Calvin (Helen) Walker, of Stockton, California.  Two aunts, Ms. Lois Walker of Sacramento, California and Ms. Lorene Hiland of Tucson, Arizona.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former co-workers.

Her service will be held at Faith Temple Church of God In Christ, 506 Warren Street; Prescott, Arkansas 71857, under the direction of Hamilton-Davis Funeral Home Staff, where Superintendent Leroy Sworn will serve as Officiant and Elder Russell Walker will serve as Eulogist on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 10:00 A.M.  A formal visitation will be held at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ on Friday evening September 13, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.  Interment will be immediately following her service at DeAnn Cemetery; Greenlawn Street on Highway 371; Prescott, Arkansas 71857.
