Hope School Board
The Hope School Board met in Hempstead Hall on Monday (10-14). Starting at 4pm there was also a Hispanic and multicultural awareness event. At 5pm there was a report to the public followed by the Board Meeting.

The Arkansas School Board Association will meet in Prescott on October 21st. Board Members Margaret Moss and Janus Miles will be attending. The question was raised if anyone else was interesting in going.
There will be a work session on October the 30th at Beryl Henry. There will be walkthroughs and a principal discussion as well as a budget and long-term planning discussions.
The school board meeting followed the Report to the Public. The Superintendent’s Awards included students teachers, parents and community members connected with Beryl Henry, Yerger and HAPS. Brooklyn Evans, Shakeria Scott, RayShad McClure, Ny’Yana Philips, Clifford Brown, Dakota Greer, Alayna Cheatham, Alyssa Banks and Aaron Hernandez were the students recognized. Teachers recognized were Whitney Muldrow, Alejandra Basilio, Bennie Land, La Tonya Bradley, Jonathan Turner, Jessica Garcia, Joy Higdon, Cleveland Gordon and Kayla White. Parents recognized were A’Kirra Lucas, Rodney Philips, Shameika Roberts, Allena Ogden and the Wilcox Family. Community Partners Recognized were Jason Moore and Barbara Gilbert with the Hope Quilter’s Gulf.
An important part of the meeting was a report on new cameras being installed in the schools by KLC. The current system has lasted over a decade as it is a good system. The new cameras will allow for searches by hair, pants, or shirt color as well as vehicle color and type. These cameras are being paid for by a Community Oriented Policing Services Grant. The new system has a 7-year warranty. This system will have a total cost of almost $234,000. The cameras will be installed at Yerger and Hope High School by January. Clinton and Beryl Henry will receive theirs the following semester.

For personal days, the policy has been updated so teachers can use personal day for any reason.
Professional Development policy was changed to allow teachers two days of Department of Education Approved Professional Development beyond the district required days. This allows teachers to attend without taking personal days to do so. The teachers will be financially responsible for attending the conference. This includes hotel room and travel expenses. The request must be made at least 30 days in advance.
The Center for Strategic Leadership Incentive Pay will be used for retention and recruitment.
There were 5 student hearings in which the board went with the superintendent’s recommendations.
Personnel matters were approved unanimously.
