Mary Madageline “Little Sister” Johnson
Mary Madageline “Little Sister” Green Johnson was born on April 3, 1933, in Columbus, Arkansas to Tommy Green Sr. and Louisa (Lizzie) Morrison Green.
Mary was given a unique name. Her name is mentioned in the Bible. Mary was the third child in a family of five.
At an early age Mrs. Mary Madageline Johnson dedicated her life to Christ at Corinth Baptist Church. She attended school at Corinth Baptist Church and Howard County Training School.
Mrs. Johnson had a home daycare where most of the children in Tollette attended before going to work at the Tri-County Day Care. Later in life Mrs. Johnson became a caregiver for the community and then her family. Mrs. Johnson loved the Lord, traveling and family. Mrs. Johnson continued to be active until her health failed. She was Tollette First Church of God Church Custodian for several years. Mrs. Johnson was a very active member of Tollette Senior Citizens when it was located in Tollette, Mother Board, and Tuesday Noon Bible Study.
Mary married the late Jack Johnson at an early age.
She had two sisters and two brothers who proceed her in death: Odissa Gamble, Renea English, Robert Green, and Tommy Green Jr., but her extended family of first cousins were like her sisters and brothers. Mary had six biological children, and she later embraced another daughter. Two children preceded her in death: Charlie and Gloria, her parents Tommy &Louisa “Lizzie Green, and two son-in laws, Dwight Holmes Sr. and Leon Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughters, Bobbie Thomas of Compton, California, Carolyn Johnson of Long Beach, California, Apostle Dr. Ellen Holmes of Texarkana, Arkansas, Linda Preister (Corey) of Nashville, Arkansas, son Curtis Charles Hopkins (Lola) of Tollette, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, she had many bonus children that she reared and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Visitation will be 3:30-5:30 Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, November 2 at Tollette First Church of God, 946 Martin Luther King Dr., Tollette. Burial will be at Crofton Cemetery in Tollette. Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
