UAMS to host two health care events in Nevada County
LITTLE ROCK — Residents of southwest Arkansas will have access to free medical screenings and health resources during two upcoming community events hosted by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
On Friday, Nov. 22, UAMS will host “Filling the Health care Gaps in Nevada County” in Rosston. The event will offer a variety of free medical tests and screenings, including general health screenings and screenings for lung, breast, prostate and colorectal cancers. Confidential testing for HIV, sexually transmitted diseases and hepatitis C will also be available. Ambulatory services will offer information on what to do while waiting on emergency services, and information will also be available on mental health, COVID-19, heart health and opioid awareness.
A partnership between the UAMS Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, Nurse Navigators and the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, the event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nevada School District, located at 6580 U.S. Highway 278. Hotdogs, chips, water, popcorn and cotton candy will be provided, and door prizes will be given away.
On Saturday, Nov. 23, Prescott will play host to UAMS’ “What a Thankful Day” event as part of the observance of World AIDS Day. The event will offer free, confidential HIV testing and will connect patients to available care. HIV and sexually transmitted disease prevention and awareness materials will also be available. General health screenings will be provided as well.
Held at the Prescott Gap Services Office at 117 E. Main St., the event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hot plates, including sliced pork, beef or chicken, along with two sides and a drink, will be available to attendees while quantities last.
Both events are free and open to the public.
