The Nevada County Quorum Court held a budget meeting Friday (12-13) to discuss the budget for the new year. The proposed budget includes raises for county employees of $2 per hour for all except the jail employees. The proposed budget includes raises of 75 cents per hour for them.
There was discussion concerning any way to get more food out of the state. That has been tried but care must be taken not to get food which is out of date
Waste at the jail was mentioned and the effort to reduce it. It was noted the success of reducing waste could affect future raises. The issue of further raises will be revisited in June. In terms of jail employees, the county is trying to get more Arkansas Community Corrections employees and Department of Community Corrections employees. The county is getting employees from different counties. Discussion ensued concerning if a contract for two years can be requested. It was noted with officers this works but not with other positions.
The issue of comp time was brought up as a definite possibility with holiday pay as long as the employees worked the days scheduled.
The jail is $120,000 in the hole. It will need another $20,000 next month for payroll. $100,000 was asked to be transferred from the County General Fund to the Jail. Money earned will go back into the General Fund as it is earned. Solid Waste is also $40,000 in the hole as well.
The budget will be amended before the next Quorum Court on Monday (12-16) at 5pm. The only item on the agenda will be the Budget.
The Meeting adjourned.
