Blevins City Council January meeting
BLEVINS – The Blevins City Council met on Tuesday. Due to sickness, the mayor was absent and John Myrick, the assistant mayor presided. After a prayer the minutes were passed as was the Treasurer’s report. Keith Steed, the JP for the District talked about a road he had built to the sewer system across from the school. There is a large creek running through there and with the placement of a culvert adjoining the city’s culvert and a lot of asphalt, the new road should not wash out. The old road through there was a mess. Steed presented an invoice to the city which was approved by the council.
Kenny Hill said the Stevens well was good to go with the new compressor, water pump and generator. There is a heater in both wells. This required a booster pump as well. This well is the reserve water for the city. The sewer pond is running well.
Cows running loose and the repair of fencing to deal with the situation was talked about with fencing material that could be used to fix the issue. While the cow’s owner is supposed to be responsible for the cow in practice that doesn’t necessarily happen.
Hill talked about a new computer that was needed, and he is having to do more and more on the computer and needs to have a more powerful computer as the city does. A motion was passed to allow the purchase of a new computer.
Mapping software also was discussed. While the software isn’t cheap the city can afford to purchase it. The city will wait for the report to approve the purchase. Jeff would install it.
A pay increase for Vicky Gray and Terry Steed was discussed and tabled until next month.
A number of streetlights are out and need to be checked. The city pays for the streetlights whether or not they work. The mayor or vice mayor have to make the call to SWEPCO to be fixed. The lights within the city limits with arms facing the street are considered streetlights.
The closest address needs to be known in order to report it. Some tags are either unreadable or missing. SWEPCO is supposed attach new tags.
The dog ordinance has been posted and needs to go into effect. It was discussed whether or not the money collected from fines would need to go into a separate account or could go into the general account with the conclusion that the general account would work. This money will be used to remove the dogs if needed.
The meeting adjourned.
