Dr. Martin Luther King Walk and Service

On Monday (1-20), despite the cold weather, the walk honoring Dr. Martjn Luther King’s legacy was held. People gathered in the Mount Zion C.M.E. Church on Hickory in Hope. People gathered before the walk in the church and the walk was delayed until 11am because of the cold. A short service was held beforehand and a longer one afterwards. During the walk, the MLK theme song was sung. Afterwards, “I Need You to Survive” was sung as well.
Snacks were served including hot chocolate, crackers, potato soups, and hot dogs.
The service afterwards included the Black National Anthem, “Lift Up Every Voice” a sermon, prayer, a welcome, offering, a prayer, recognition of local public officials, music, speeches and an invitation to discipleship.
It was an ecumenical service with religious leaders from Hope, Emmet, Fulton, Texarkana, and Tollette. There were also two Quorum Court members present, Pastor Jesse Henry and Doris Brown. Reverend Katrina Ward was the host pastor and Marsha White was the chairperson.
