Hempstead County Quorum Court

The Hempstead County Quorum Court met on January 23rd for their regular monthly meeting.    The meeting was kicked off with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

There was discussion about the condition of County Road 2, particularly between Guernsey and Fulton.   The road has been deteriorating and has been difficult to drive on.  The county road department will check on the road and determine what can be done to the problem spots.  One of the JP’s asked that when a citizen calls in such a complaint that the effort is made to get their name and phone number so a follow-up call can be made.  Also, it was requested that such complaints or comments are also forwarded to the county judge.
Hempstead County Veterans Service officer Donna Rosenbaum asked the JP’s for $3,000 towards a new van to transport veterans to medical appointments.  Plans are to buy a 2025 Ford Explorer to replace the current van.  Rosenbaum has received pledges of $3,000 each from Clark and Nevada County.  Former Van driver Jay Kopecky donated $5,000 towards the new vehicle.  The JP’s voted to contribute $3,000 towards the purchase of the new vehicle.
Following a report from Sheriff James Singleton, the meeting adjourned.
