Hempstead County Historical Society Meets, Hears Program on Panoramic Photo of Hope

The Hempstead County Historical Society met Tuesday (1-28) in the Tailgaters meeting room.  This month’s program drew a good crowd interested in the history of Hope.

Keenan Williams gave a program on the famous panoramic photo taken of downtown Hope around 1916.  For those who haven’t seen the photo, a copy can be seen at LaGrone Williams Hardware.  There is also a copy at Cadence Bank.  The photo was taken from a water tower near the railroad tracks in downtown Hope.  Williams was able to give some details about the structures seen in the photo.  He also was able to give the history of the railroad coming to Hope along with its history down through the years.  During the course of the program, several of the buildings in downtown Hope, both past and present, were discussed.
