Mr. Charles Edward Harris
Mr. Charles Edward Harris was born June 12, 1941, to Luther Harris and Gracye Smith in Emmet, Arkansas. He was the second oldest of six children: Luther, Gracye, William (Glenn), Jackie, Mary and stepsister, Mary Lou Holston. Charles accepted Christ at an early age and attended church on Sundays with his family.
Charles attended Emmet Key Elementary School before continuing his education at Henry C. Yerger High School. After high school, Charles was employed with Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway, and he also drove trucks.
Charles joined in holy matrimony with Bettye L. Wilson on October 4, 1965, in Indiana. They remained married for a long and meaningful 54 years until death separated them. To this union two beautiful daughters were born, Debbie Denise Harris and Deshan Yvette Harris. To care for his children, he became a truck driver.
Charles was a devoted and loving father, brother, and son. He opened up his home to many who needed assistance. He had a tremendous heart and was always there to support others in times of need. He was a family man and also a great friend to everyone in the community. He was a socialite who loved to talk to people and hang out, making numerous connections with others and bonds that have extended lifetimes.
Charles’s favorite hobbies were talking to others, traveling, and watching television shows and politics. He was an avid politic enjoyer who always watched the latest news and kept up with recent events and topics. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a faithful member of the Greater St. Paul Baptist Church.
Charles departed this life on January 27, 2025, in Emmet, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two children, his parents, his sister Gracye, his mother-in-law and father-in-law. He leaves to cherish his memories two grandchildren: Tekylah and Tyrell (Deshan and Robert); three brothers: Luther, William, Jackie, a sister, Mary, and step-sister, Mary Lou Holston; a special nephew, Kevin Harris, a special family member Ollie Wiley; a God Sister Jocelyn Saunders; a special great niece Brittany Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren, friends, and great neighbors.
