Washington City Council
The Washington City Council met on February 18th. The meeting was called to order at 12:07pm.
The council heard that 9 dogs have been caught in the animal control efforts. In particular there is a black and white dog that has been a particular nuisance.
The fire department was discussed. There were a few medical calls, but no fires. The department’s tanker truck has flat tires. All the tires are old and will need to be replaced. Jon Barry, who was presenting, laid out before the council the specifications for the tires he wanted on the tanker. The other trucks are in good shape. For the tanker tires, there was a discussion about getting bids. It was decided to let the fire department auxiliary help with getting the funds for the new tires. Firefighting is a lot more dangerous due to different building matterials now utilized in construction. Barry wants the council to buy an eye-washing station. There was also talk of getting a specialized washing machine for removing toxins from the turnouts.
The Americorp tour group will be returning to Washington. The mayor is coming up with a list of things for the group to do.
Mona Still was there to discuss the James Black Bowie Festival. There will be a grand opening each day. Still asked the council to shuttle the reenactors around, so they don’t have to walk everywhere. She said there will be a knife thrower at the festival. Still asked if the city could block-off a nearby street for safety reasons. There will be a knife raffle which will cost $5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20. UAHT and COSSATOT will be bringing their welding groups.
The Washington City Council has been invited to the Arkansas State Capitol. Any council member who wants to go is welcome. They will be recognized as a city council.
The council heard a request to fix Jackson Street and the meeting then adjourned.
