Hope City Board

The Hope City Board met on March 4th. Following a prayer and the pledge, the board reviewed and approved the minutes.
Hope Police Chief Kim Tomlin addressed cars parking in bike lanes. Discussion ensued. A new ordinance entitled “An ordinance to prohibit any person from operating, parking, or leave standing any vehicle or motorcycle upon property designated as a city bicycle lane”. The board considered the proposed ordinance.
Assistant City Manager Daniel Shellman and Jeremy Stone gave an update on obtaining land for a proposed new fire station. There are a few locations that are under consideration. This includes land owned by the Brazzel family on Main Street, the site of a former floral shop on Main Street, and property on East Third in the “S curve”. There was discussion on whether some of the possible demolition would prematurely fill the city landfill. City Manager J. R. Wilson voiced concerns that the city might have to open a new cell in a couple of years should the city have to demolish a structure or structures on one of the sites.
The board considered applying for a 50/50 grant for the airport and voted to do so. This will be used to update buildings at the airport.
John and Angela Little requested their property be annexed into the Hope city limits. The board voted to allow them to be annexed into the city.
Under the city manager’s report, J.R. Wilson discussed some property on 16th that is being appraised and also discussed some new rules for the landfill.
The board met in executive session and following that session the meeting adjourned.
