Hope Civitan Club Sets Garage Sale For April 5th in Downtown Hope

The Hope Civitan Club’s annual garage sale is slated for this Saturday, starting at 7 a.m. at The Hub in downtown Hope. Proceeds of the garage sale benefit the club’s annual scholarship for a high school senior and other club projects.

April is Civitan Awareness Month, celebrated by Civitan clubs around the world. The Hope Civitan Club has been a civic organization for 15 years, with a concentration on service, knowledge, and fellowship. Hope Civitans work on a club project each month, including projects honoring Veterans, local clergy, and the special education staffs of local schools. The club also runs the classic car show at the Watermelon Festival as a fundraiser for both the club and the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce.

Civitans worldwide have a special focus on individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and Hope Civitans recently provided a St. Patrick’s Day dance and hot dog supper for Rainbow of Challenges participants. The club also supports the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, AL, which conducts brain research related to causes of disability, and helps local athletes attend Special Olympics competitions.

Items from several families will be available at Saturday’s garage sale, including clothes of various sizes and styles, household items ranging from cookware and decorative items to books, and many other useful things. Help kick-off Civitan Awareness by month by shopping with Hope Civitans Saturday at The Hub. For more information, contact Twyla Pruden at 870-703-4366.
