Scout Troop 5 Floats the Buffalo River Near Jasper
Scout Troop 5 of Hope floated the Buffalo River near Jasper, Arkansas. They
stayed at Scout Camp Orr on the Buffalo River travelling the river in
Buffalo Outdoor Center canoes.
Activities included see the elk herd in Ponca Valley, Hiking to Twin Falls,
cutting firewood and keeping the dining hall fireplaces burning all weekend
to stay warm at night.
The Troop visited Larry England and his family at their renovated 100 year
old home between Ponca and Compton. Larry’s wife Daphne made decorated cake
cookies for all the Scouts.
The second part of the trip was spent on the White River at White Hole
Resort. All the Scouts were treated to a guided trout fishing trip in boats
followed by a fish fry hosted by
Steve, Lin and Katelin Willits at the resort. The Scouts then toured the
Vexus Boat Plant in Flippin, Toured WAPSI Fly Company in Mountain Home and
finished the day with all the pizza they could eat at the Brick Oven
Pizzaria in Mountain Home.
T L Lauerman conducted a class teaching the Scouts how to tie fishing flies
then he gave each Scout a complete fly tying kit courtesy of WAPSI Fly
Company. Harper McMahan was given the Wooley Booger fly made by T L..
The next day the Scouts were given a hands on class in the use of fly rods
and reels at Dry Run Creek. Then the guides helped the Scouts catch trout
flyfishing on the clear mountain creek.
