Dora Alicia Philyaw-Updated

Dora Alicia Philyaw, aged 78, of Hope, Arkansas, gained her wings on April 28, 2025. Born on December 10, 1946, in Beeville, Texas, to Jose K. and Braulia Garza, Dora lived a life full of service and dedication to her community.
She was a cherished member of Unity Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Her commitment to her community was evident through her roles as a school board member of the Hope Public Schools, a Board of Regents member for the former Medical Park Hospital, and a board member of the Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce. Dora also enjoyed her time with The Ladies Red Hats Society and was an active volunteer for the Christian Charitable Clinic and the School of Hope, now known as Rainbow of Challenges. Dora was frequently asked to translate for the Christian Charitable Clinic, local schools, law enforcement agencies and local circuit and municipal courts.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jose K. Garza and Braulia V. Garza: Sisters, Lydia V. Segovia, and Maria A. Gonzales. Brothers Joe V. Garza Jr., Casamiro V. Garza, and Alec Rodolfo Kady.
Dora is survived by Brothers, Salvador Garza of Roseville, California. Francisco, (Nina) Garza, Fernado Garza, and Santiago Garza all of Beeville, Texas. Her children; Junie (Teresa) Munoz of LaPlace, Louisiana, Alicia (Mark) Ross of Hope, Arkansas, Thomas (Alisha) Philyaw of Miami, Oklahoma and Stephanie Philyaw of Miami, Oklahoma Grandchildren, JB Ross, Heather Williams, Jacob Russell, Josh Ross, Michael Philyaw, Aralyn Philyaw, Anthony Munoz, Gunner Toland, Sammantha Philyaw, Tristin Philyaw, Anna Munoz, Emily Philyaw and Alex Philyaw. One Great-Grand Daughter Stella Munoz.

The visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 1pm at the Brazzel Oakcrest Chapel.
The funeral service will be on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 2pm at the Brazzel Oakcrest Chapel with burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Hope, AR.
Arrangements are under the direction of BRAZZEL/OAKCREST, the Funeral home of Hope.
