The Hope City Board met on Tuesday (5-6). After the prayer and pledge of allegiance, last meeting’s minutes were approved.
Clay McGill of BILD Architect was present to give an update on the proposed aquatic center for the city. There are plans to have basketball courts, along with rooms for parties in addition to the indoor swimming pool.
Jeremy Stone was present to give an update on the pickleball courts. He also noted the parking lot will be changed to asphalt instead of gravel. Mr. Stone also gave an update on the proposed fire station. A location for the fire station will be discussed at the next meeting.
The board removed a 2002 Chevrolet pick-up from service. There was a motion to label the truck as surplus. The motion passed. The city will pursue selling the truck via auction.
Hope City Manager J.R. Wilson gave his report. He noted the funeral of a fireman, Tristan Lane Johnson, who passed away recently. Wilson noted there was a train derailment near New Millenium recently. The cause of the derailment is unknown. It was noted there is an emergency situation at the west wastewater treatment plant. The motors that pump the wastewater to the plant are flooded due to a potential valve issue. A diesel pump is being used as a temporary replacement. The repairs will take a few months. Wilson said it would cost about $10,000 to fix it.
The board adjourned for an executive session. No action was taken when they reconvened. There were no citizens requests and the meeting adjourned.
