Blevins School Board

The Blevins School Board met on Monday (5-12). The budget was discussed.  One board member said that it would cost about $6,000 — $8,000 just to replace some damaged ceiling tiles.  They are using some of the safety grant money to clean up part of the campus, such as the gym and the classrooms.  There was a passed motion to accept the financial statement.

There is a new nurse after the previous nurse left for a new job.   The new nurse, Britni Cottingham, might be able to teach CNA classes in the summer.  There was discussion about the different medical supplies the district has such as in the concession stand and in school busses. The coaches and teachers are also CPR trained.
Laura Clark mentioned that the board might allow a sign-up sheet for people to make a public 3-minute comment at the next Board meeting. Clark said the board might put people’s comments in the next meeting’s agenda.  She also recommended the board start this next meeting.
Several board members are up for election.  There was a motion to go to a 6-year term for the board and to appoint the members to their election years.  The motion passed.
The board discussed student enrollment.  The current enrollment is 386 students which is 20 students less than expected.  There was a question as to whether homeschooling or students enrolling in other schools was the cause, but it was agreed that wasn’t the case.
The board went into executive session.  There was a motion to accept the personnel list as it was presented when the board reconvened in public session. The meeting then adjourned.
